A SERVICE OF ORDINATION AND INSTALLATION OF ELDERS
Minister: There are different gifts.
People: But it is the same Spirit who gives them.
Minister: There are different ways of serving God.
People: But it is the same Lord who is served.
Minister: God works through different people in different ways.
People: But it is the same God who achieves his purpose through them all.
Minister: Each one is given a gift by the Spirit.
People: To use it for the common good.
Minister: Together we are the body of Christ.
People: And individually members of him.
Minister: Though we have different gifts, together we are a ministry of
reconciliation led by the risen Christ. We work and pray to make his
church useful in the world, and we call men and women to faith, so
that, in the end, every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that
Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Within our common ministry, some members are chosen for
particular work as teaching elders , ruling elders and deacons. In
ordination, we recognize these special ministries remembering that
our Lord Jesus said: “Whoever among you wants to be great must
become the servant of all, and if he wants to be first among you, he
must be the slave of all men!”
People: Just as the Son of Man came not to be served, but to serve, and to
give his life to set others free.

Let us affirm those things which are most assuredly believed among us:

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, light from light,
true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became truly human.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

POSTLUDE: Postlude on “Dennis” by Hans G. Nageli

Presbyterians celebrate an “open communion.” All professing Christians who have been baptized “In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit” are encouraged to partake of this Holy Sacrament.

The Nicene Creed
The Nicene Creed is part of our Presbyterian Book of Confessions. It is the oldest creed, named for the Council of Nicea (325 A.D.), refuted the theology of Arius who had declared that Christ was only like God, and therefore, not true God. If this heresy had prevailed, then God himself was not fully present in Christ.
